"In September 2021 I ran 10km in the Blackmores Sydney (Virtual) Running Festival to raise funds for Bowel Cancer Australia, in memory of my Dad, Tony.

Dad was one of the fittest people I knew, he loved to run, and I did this for him!

My Dad was diagnosed with metastatic bowel cancer in March 2020 and unfortunately passed away by July of the same year. The cancer had spread to his lung and soon after surgery we found out that it had also metastasised to his brain, liver, and spine.

He had further surgery to remove one of the brain tumours, which left him struggling to communicate, and in his last few weeks we watched him suffer in excruciating pain.

No one deserves to go through what my Dad endured, which is what motivated me to raise funds for Bowel Cancer Australia to support those whose lives are affected by bowel cancer.

For those that know me, running 10km was a very big deal! Over a period of four months, I trained my ass off to complete the 10km run non-stop and was able to proudly cross the finish line. I started a group called ‘The Bowel Movements’, made up of friends and family who supported this endeavour and would have run beside me if the pandemic hadn’t flared up again!

Together, we managed to raise over $8250 for Bowel Cancer Australia and I couldn’t be prouder of our achievements!" ~ Emma.
