"Our great friend Marcus always brought out the best in everyone. His encouragement, support and belief in people made everyone be the best they could be. He was a much loved father, husband, teacher, friend and personal trainer.

He loved to run his own parkrun along the Elwood foreshore every Saturday morning.

Marcus lost his fight with bowel cancer in February this year aged 35. He had the BRAF mutation, where currently there is no standard form of treatment. We miss our friend and we don’t want other families to go through what Abbey and their girls, Willow and Grace, have gone through.

We were inspired by Marcus and staged the Inaugural Champs’ Elwood Parkrun on ANZAC Day (what would have been his 36th birthday). With not much notice and the power of a community, 402 people turned up at 8am to run 5km along the Elwood foreshore in memory of an amazing man. We raised $4050 for Bowel Cancer Research.

We had tears of sadness and joy as we watched everyone run, jog or walk, with smiles and laughter of support on Marcus’ Birthday and we are proud to have raised money for Bowel Cancer Research and hope to make this an annual event in honour of Champs."
