During the month of August two Directors at Harcourts Property Centre reinvented the concept of Shave for a Cure with their own initiative ‘Hairgust’.

Sam Devlin and Aaron Brooks committed to wearing professional wigs every day for the whole month, with the aim to raise $10,000 for Bowel Cancer Australia and Pancare.

“We figured with heads like ours (both Sam and Aaron are bald) we can’t do shave for a cure, so we flipped the script and created Hairgust. Where we’d get sponsored to wear professionally fitted toupees for a month.”

“I reckon it’s the best we’ve looked since our 20s and as a bonus, all the money raised goes to two charities that do such amazing work,” Sam said.

The passing of Sam’s father to pancreatic cancer and Aaron’s mother to bowel cancer keeps the foundations close to both their hearts.

“It’s for a good cause and cancer unfortunately effects most of us at some stage through our lives,” Aaron said.

The Hairgust event saw brave members of the Harcourts Property Centre also shave their hair for these important causes. Culminating in a luncheon with raffles, a charity auction and a guest speaker from Bowel Cancer Australia – Awareness Advocate, Makala.

“Bowel Cancer Australia’s nutritionist Teresa provided excellent support after my surgery. Her advice helped me reset my expectations and her tips and resources made light work of my dietary adjustments. I’ve since recommended this service on a number of occasions and always receive positive feedback,” said Makala.

“I can’t speak highly enough of Fiona and the nursing team at Bowel Cancer Australia’s. They provide a tremendous amount of support and reassurance at a time when you have more questions than answers. Their ability to translate medical advice into practical assistance is invaluable and the fact they do this with such a kindness and generosity of spirit makes it all the more special. The team have been an integral part of my journey and have had such a positive impact on my treatment pathway,” Makala added.
