Nina Di Santo is one of Bowel Cancer Australia’s most resilient ongoing supporters and advocates. She organised a Zumba-themed Red Apple Day fundraiser at her local gym and called it “Shake your booty for bowel cancer.”

The following are Nina’s words:

“When I first met Helen, I was a bit of a mess, having just completed six months of chemotherapy. She teaches Zumba Gold, which is a modified version of Zumba, perfect for older people or those with health issues. She welcomed me into her class with open arms and has been one of my biggest supporters ever since. Along with the beautiful ladies in the class, I have zumba’d my way through another major surgery and another six months of chemo. It has become my absolute happy place. For the second year in a row now, Helen has raised funds for Bowel Cancer Australia in the month of June and has encouraged me to talk to the group about bowel screening and symptoms. This year Helen led the class wearing the “bum shorts,” and I danced along with her in a poo costume. Afterwards, we shared poo cupcakes and red apples. Helen also followed up with an email to all the participants with information from Bowel Cancer Australia. Thank you so much, Helen xxo.”
