I was originally not rostered to work on Red Apple Day, so when I was asked, I scrambled to get together some information, bought some apples, and baked some cookies to help encourage people to jump onto the website and donate directly. I felt this was an easier way to encourage donations than through my profile that I created through redappleday.com. Although I am unsure how much or how many people donated, I do know that the flyers that I printed from the Bowel Cancer Australia website were read and awareness was raised, with many people thanking me for sharing my story. Fundraising and raising awareness for bowel cancer is something I hold dear to my heart. We need answers as to why bowel cancer is becoming so common, especially in those under 50, and I hope that sometime in the near future we can find a cure.” ~ Amanda.
