“In August 2023, I was diagnosed with bowel cancer at the age of 40. Since then, I’ve had surgery to remove the tumour, a temporary stoma, chemotherapy, and a stoma reversal operation in February 2024.

Unfortunately, this meant I had to pull out of the Perth Running Festival in 2023 and instead began what I called my ‘Hospital bed to 10k’ training.

I ran the Perth Running Festival 10k this year to raise money for Bowel Cancer Australia, who have supported me throughout my bowel cancer ‘experience’ over the past 12 months. Their help and support have been invaluable to me, as it is to so many others.

I also wanted to raise awareness of early-onset bowel cancer, something a lot of people are unaware of.”. ~ Philippa.
