A very big thank you and congratulations to the Conquer65 crew, who climbed The Fleet Steps at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair 65 times today to raise much needed awareness and more than $19,000 for Bowel Cancer Australia.

“65…that’s the number of rounds of chemotherapy (so far) that our brother and father have undergone in their respective battles against bowel cancer. And that’s the number of sets of stairs we will climb to acknowledge their courage and strength and to raise awareness and funds for Bowel Cancer Australia.

Just 3 days before his 40th birthday, our brother Anthony was diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel cancer. He was a fitness professional and young father. The cancer had spread to his liver and has since spread to his abdomen and lymph nodes.

Our family has been vigilant about screening for this disease ever since. However, late last year our Dad was diagnosed with Stage 3 bowel cancer despite having a clear colonoscopy only 2 years earlier. Early detection was key and no doubt saved his life.

Bowel cancer is now the deadliest cancer for people aged 25-44. 1 in 9 diagnosed are under the age of 50. Our brother is committed to addressing the alarming increase in the early onset of this disease by creating awareness and making early detection more accessible. And we want to show our support and help where we can by encouraging our friends and family aged 45 and over to register for and/or complete the screening test. You can do so here: Request a free bowel test kit | National Cancer Screening Register (ncsr.gov.au)

Inspired by our brother’s love of fitness and commitment to this cause, we will be taking to The Fleet Steps at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair on Monday 14th October (on the 5-year anniversary of Anthony’s diagnosis) to Conquer65 sets of stairs. All are welcome to come and join on the day. You can also donate to Bowel Cancer Australia here: Challenge | Conquer65 (gofundraise.com.au).” ~ Natalie and Kimberley

A huge thank you for your support, Natalie and Kimberley. Your awareness and fundraising efforts are greatly appreciated and will have a direct impact, helping to save lives and improve the health and wellbeing of people living with bowel cancer.
