“The Ladies Annual Cancer Charity Golf Day was held at Wantima Country Club  under blue skies and near perfect course conditions. A field of 144 players participated in the day, including a team from our major sponsors Roy Gripske & Sons, for whom we are very grateful for their continued support.

Our chosen charity for 2026 was Bowel Cancer Australia and we are proud to have raised funds to support the charity’s work in early detection, screening, education and support programs and research. With many of our club members impacted by or having family members and friends face the challenges this disease brings we sought to promote a healthy, active lifestyle through golf. Moderate exercise is promoted as being beneficial to bowel cancer sufferers and survivors and we know playing golf can assist them on their journey.

We were grateful to the team of volunteers who assisted prior to and during the event on the course to get members to dig deep into their pockets. Through their efforts the Wantima Country Club raised $4,301.30 during Bowel Cancer Awareness Month. Our grounds supervisor event got creative and drew an elongated apple on the first hole for our accurate drive event.

With golf being the main activity for the day, there was lots of banter and competitive spirit on display.

We are pleased to have been able to support such a worthy cause and are truly grateful to our Wantima members for their support. The day was a blessing for one of our mixed division winners as she had lost her younger brother, who was only in his mid-40’s, to bowel cancer just 10 days prior to the event. She was forever grateful to be able to play and to win – a fitting reward as she continues to grieve his loss.

We wish you well in your endeavours to tackle this horrific disease.” ~ Jan.
