Earlier this year, I learned about a job opportunity opening up. The next chance wouldn’t be until January 2025, so I made the very nervous decision to start back at work on June 12, 2024, after more than a year and a half off for treatment. Because my cancer was so low, I now live with Lower Anterior Resection Syndrome (LARS), which makes life unpredictable. Some days I have only three bowel movements, but other days I can have up to 20. I was advised that going back to work would be the best thing for me, so I knew I had to give it a try. I was open and upfront with my team, who I had worked with in the past, and they’ve been incredibly supportive and accommodating. My first goal was just to make it through four weeks. Now, I’m four months back at work, and while some days are tough, it’s mostly been manageable thanks to the diet plan my nutritionists from Bowel Cancer Australia created for me. Looking ahead, I’m now able to plan a family holiday to the Cook Islands in 2025, something I didn’t think would be possible. I can’t thank Bowel Cancer Australia enough for their support in helping me get back to work. I’ve just completed my first six-month scans and blood tests, and they’ve come back all clear—thank God! 😊 🙏🏽 Bowel cancer has changed my life forever, but I’m happy to share my story to raise awareness, so that young people like me don’t ignore the symptoms.” ~ Andrew +++++ Thank you so much Andrew for the update and we are so happy that you are back at work and planning a family holiday!
