Back then, my life changed in an instant. Chemotherapy, radiation, major surgery, an ileostomy, more chemotherapy, and finally my reversal surgery. I was so focused on surviving that I didn’t fully understand what life after cancer would look like. The truth is, recovery didn’t end when treatment did. Daily challenges that many people don’t see. There have been good days, difficult days, and plenty of moments where I’ve had to learn patience and resilience. Whilst my road has not been easy, it has become more manageable day by day. I’ve learned to adapt, celebrate the small wins, and appreciate my body for everything it has carried me through. Looking back, I’m incredibly grateful that I trusted my instincts. I had no family history of bowel cancer, and my symptoms were initially misunderstood. If I hadn’t gone back and insisted on a colonoscopy, my story may have been very different. Today, I’m simply grateful to be here, to watch my children grow into adults, to make memories with my family and friends, and to enjoy the ordinary moments that once seemed so uncertain. If sharing my journey encourages even one person to listen to their body, ask questions, or push for further investigation when something doesn’t feel right, then every part of this journey has had a purpose. Please don’t ignore the signs. You know your body better than anyone else. Your life is worth fighting for. 💙 Published: September 11, 2026
