Debbie’s story

My journey begins in November 2020. My husband had passed away. I was grieving.

In December 2020, I started getting constipated and excruciating pains in the right side of my abdomen.

I was drinking a bottle of wine a night, not eating properly and had no energy.

I told myself to suck it up. It’s just my grief causing it.

I have Type 2 diabetes and my sugar levels were very high by May 2021.

I went to the doctor and explained my symptoms. He did a FBC and sent me for a colonoscopy.

I was diagnosed with Stage 3 bowel cancer in the Cecum.

I had surgery on the 1/6/21. Had a 10 cm tumour removed and six months of chemotherapy.

So far no metastasis, but I have very bad Neuropathy in my feet and lower legs and my fingertips.

My one piece of advice for others:

Get any sort of unexplained pain checked straight away.
