Dr Rod Pearce AM is a country and city GP and Medical Officer of Health for the Eastern Health Authority (HA), Adelaide.
 

Dr Pearce became a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) on Australia Day 2012. He received the award for his long-standing service to medicine as a General Practitioner, through contributions to national medical organisations and to education.

Dr Pearce currently holds positions on numerous boards and in 2008 was appointed by the Health Minister the Hon. Nicola Roxon to the External Reference Group to develop Australia’s National Primary Health Care Strategy for the national health reforms.

Dr Pearce was president of the AMA (SA) 1998-2000 and GP Nationally Elected Representative on the Federal AMA and Chair of the AMA Council of General Practice for 3 terms from 2004-2010. He is a fellow of the AMA and received the AMA (SA) Presidents award in 2008.

He has been a director of the Australian General Practice Network, Chair of the Council of General Practice, Australian Medical Association (AMA), and has been a member of the Public Health Committee since 1978.

Dr Pearce worked with the Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) in 1990’s looking at bowel cancer screening in veterans recruited through General Practice.

Because of the success of the DVA work and his involvement in national GP leadership to engage general practice in Immunisation, Dr Pearce is working as a Director of AGPN to achieve success with GP involvement in bowel cancer and breast cancer screening.

In particular, AGPN believes that better GP involvement with national screening programs is likely to increase breast and bowel cancer screening rates up to 90%.

Dr Pearce speaks on both local and national radio and television on many health issues, as well as commenting in the media on general practice political issues.
