Chris C – Orange Running Festival Early-Onset Never 2 Young All Be Bold Bowel Cancer Awareness Month Community Company Decembeard Dry July Early-Onset In Memory Loved One Never 2 Young World Cancer Day “Thank you so much for the support shown by you & others at Bowel Cancer Australia over the last month. I’m absolutely ecstatic & blown away by the response that I have had to my story in conjunction with the fundraising & the marathon I raced on Sunday. It’s more than I ever imagined, & it’s continuing to grow. The marathon went well. I raced & executed the plan that I had for the race as far as pacing, fuelling, hydration, & heart rate; however, at 33 km, my body started to shut down. This was a chemo-induced fatigue in my body. So, for the last 6-7 km, I had to do some walking mixed in with running so that I was able to finish in time & run across the line instead of a DNF & being brought back on an RFS truck. I managed to finish in 4.5 hours, which, with all things considered on the day & then with my cancer battle & only halfway through my chemo schedule, I’ll take any day of the week. So yeah, I’m proud of myself. Would be more than happy for you to share something on social media. I chose to do all of this because after being diagnosed with aggressive stage 4 late last year. It’s changed my life; I’ve been through the wringer already with emergency surgery & 3 months of chemo so far. But the fact remains the prevalence of this disease is climbing at a rapid, uncontrollable rate in young people, & the wider population needs to know. I also wanted to do this race in the name of every cancer patient out there, as well as prove that the capabilities of our bodies are far greater than we know or are told at times. I know in some cases that statement is not the case, I might add.” ~ Chris If you were inspired by Chris’ awareness and fundraising efforts and would like to support Bowel Cancer Australia through a sporting event, please get in touch with us through our webform.
