Matt was diagnosed with Stage 3C bowel cancer, at 35 years of age, with no family history. Symptoms? Fatigue, and some stomach discomfort after an indulgent meal/night out – not necessarily red flags for an active mid 30-year-old enjoying life! The months that followed were life changing – immediate surgery, a lengthy recovery, followed by 6 months of chemo and 5 years of regular scans. We were incredibly lucky – Matt came out the other side stronger, healthier and forever grateful! 7 years and counting cancer free. Unfortunately, not everyone’s cancer journey has a positive outcome, and we honour the memory of those friends we have lost far too early to this challenging disease. The more awareness raised around the signs and symptoms of bowel cancer – especially in our younger generations, the better! Caught early this particular cancer is manageable, treatable and often curable! Any financial support you can give, no matter how small, will go towards supporting the incredible medical teams and patients fighting each and every day.” ~ Amanda If you were inspired by Amanda’s fundraising activities and would like to support Bowel Cancer Australia through Dry July, further details are available here.
