Many of the questions that are included in My Bowel Cancer, My Voice are from the EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire, developed to assess the quality of life of cancer patients. The questionnaire has been in use for over a decade.

In 2008, 1,700 male and female patients diagnosed with bowel cancer completed the EORTC QLQ-C30.

Their results are provided in the graphs and tables below.
Stage Age at Diagnosis

  • Mean – the total of all the values, divided by the number of values (also known as the ‘average’)
  • Median – the middle number in a list of numbers ordered from lowest to highest
  • IQR (Interquartile range) – indicates the spread of values, ranging from the lowest to highest
