Canberra-based accounting firm Callaghans has further cemented its commitment to bowel cancer awareness and research by hosting a second annual charity event on behalf of Bowel Cancer Australia.
The Michael Williams Memorial Golf Day, held at The Federal Golf Club on February 26, honours the memory of esteemed colleague, husband and father Michael Williams, who died of bowel cancer in October 2014. The keen golfer was only 32 years old.
Bowel Cancer Australia’s Health Promotions Officer Maria McEnery attended the event, which included a charity auction and cheque presentation. A total of $20,000 was raised thanks to donations from players, colleagues and sponsors.
Serious message in remembering Michael
The team at Callaghans Business Services is preparing for the second charity golf day on February 26 to raise funds for Bowel Cancer Australia in the name of their former partner.
The Michael Williams Memorial Trust is in honour of Callaghans’ financial planning partner, who died from bowel cancer in October, 2014, aged 32.
“We decided to choose a golf day to raise money for Bowel Cancer Australia through the Michael Williams Memorial Trust as Michael was a keen golfer who loved nothing more than a day out of the office networking with his industry peers,” says Callaghans’ partner, Justin Corkran.
“We were blown away with the success of last year’s golf day. Not only was it a beautiful day but we managed to raise $23,000 and had many comments that it was the best golf day many of the players have ever been involved in.”
