Mt Gravatt Australian Football Club host a Ferg Reid Medal Day each year in memory of Ferg, a young player at the club who sadly passed away due to bowel cancer.

To honour Ferg and help raise awareness that you’re never too young to have bowel cancer, a Ferg Reid Medal is awarded to a player as part of the annual match.

“We see this event as a tremendous opportunity to help raise awareness and support for others battling this disease,” said Roxanne who is the representative from Mt Gravatt Australian Football Club.

“The Southern Cross Sports Club assisted us with the day and helped in promoting the event. We also had the local member attending this year and I have also managed to get a piece of signed memorabilia from Jeff Horn to be auctioned – together with the commemorative jerseys the players will again wear this year, “ Roxanne added.

“It is the biggest event now on our football club calendar and this year was another fabulous day. Although we didn’t raise as much with our auction this year – it was still a great success.”

Hosting an annual event can be a wonderful way to honour the memory of a loved one or member of your club, helping to raise much-needed awareness of Australia’s second deadliest cancer in your local community, and funds to help save lives and improve the health and wellbeing of people living with bowel cancer.
