Bowel Cancer Australia Ambassador and celebrity chef, George Camobaris is celebrating the 10th anniversary of The Press Club, today.
The modern, Greek restaurant located in the former Herald and Weekly Times building, has received trophies for The Age Good Food Guide and Best New Restaurant, and was awarded a prestigious two stars and three wine glass rating in the Australian Gourmet Traveller 2017 Restaurant Guide.
George has been a Bowel Cancer Australia ambassador since 2010, in addition to being a world renowned chef and media personality. Combining his culinary expertise and personal experience, George spreads the message that healthy eating, lifestyle and awareness of family history can greatly reduce the risk of developing bowel cancer.
George’s father, Jim was diagnosed with bowel cancer twice – once when George was only 6 years old and again when he was 16. The second diagnosis was discovered through regular screening.
"My dad is a bowel cancer survivor. His second diagnosis was a big turning point in my life and I want to share my family's experience as a way to motivate others to discuss their family history and know their bowel cancer risk," said George.
Many Australians continue to die of bowel cancer – one of the most preventable, beatable and treatable of cancers – because they are simply unaware of the risk and need for screening.
"It is this lack of awareness that I hope to change," George said.
“I want to use my experience in a positive way to get the message out that a healthy diet, lifestyle and awareness of family history can save lives," said George.
Happy Anniversary and thank you for making such a big difference George Calombaris, from your friends at Bowel Cancer Australia!
