Given their close connection, Bowel Cancer Awareness Month took on extra importance to the family and Jodie wanted to raise funds and awareness in memory of her father and brother in a unique way.
“I decided to do a 13km walk, starting in Hastings, Victoria where my brother lived and walking back towards a local watering hole to celebrate not only the lives of my father and brother but also talk about bowel cancer and the importance of early detection.”
Jodie invited her friends and neighbours to join her on the walk which occurred on 24th June to build awareness within her community. “Unfortunately, cancer affects most of us, either directly or indirectly so I really wanted to take the opportunity to talk about it, about prevention and the importance of early detection. That I could raise funds for Bowel Cancer Australia was an added bonus.”
Through her determination and wonderful community spirit, Jodie was able to raise $1,347.07 for bowel cancer awareness.
