In 2014 Queensland musician Raphael Skene (nee Lindquist) was studying a Master of Music Studies at Queensland Conservatorium when she was diagnosed with stage 3 bowel cancer. She was never able to return to class to complete her studies, and sadly passed away 25 November 2014. Raphael had been married exactly one month, and had reached her 30th birthday only twelve days earlier.

One year on, Eric Yates from Flagged Productions hosted a jazz concert at Queensland Conservatorium to honour Raphael’s memory and fulfil her final wishes.

Raphael had discussed the idea of a benefit concert with Eric after her diagnosis in February.

The concert included jazz and contemporary music, featuring both local and well-known artists, as well as performances by friends and lecturers from the Conservatorium.

Thanks to their efforts, the team raised a total of $1,357 for Bowel Cancer Australia in memory of their dear friend and classmate, Raphael. Congratulations to Eric and the Flagged Productions for a successful event, and huge thanks to Raphael’s family, friends, classmates and fellow musicians for your ongoing support.
