"As we went about organising this event we soon realised how many people this insidious disease has touched and affected either directly or indirectly. So many people in our small community have fought, are fighting or have sadly lost their fight to bowel cancer. Neon Netball soon became a community spirited event. Unfortunately three weeks out, a stalwart of our club and community who had agreed to be a guest speaker on the night (if his health allowed), sadly lost his battle to bowel cancer. As we farewelled such an inspirational person, we knew spreading the word and raising awareness and funds was a must".
"The Neon Netball marathon ran from June 7th at 7pm to June 8th 7am. Participants could enter as teams or as individuals, with age groups ranging from 10 years to well into their 60's. Netball was played continually for the whole 12 hours, with a game being played every 15mins, we had two courts in full swing til midnight, and then down to the one for the long haul".
"It was a fantastic night that brought our community and neighbouring districts together in a bid to support a great cause and help raise awareness. Participants came dressed in lots of different bright and fun costumes. We had businesses, families, schools, and other football / netball clubs enter teams. Many of the teams were of mixed gender, ages and of all different abilities. This made for a very entertaining 12 hours".
"The response and support we received surpassed all our expectations. Thanks to the generosity of all the business and individual donors and sponsors, and thanks to the participants, spectators and many other wonderful community members, who got involved in some way or other to ensure Neon Netball was such a huge success".
The club smashed their original target of $3,000, collecting over $18,000! Big thanks for all your support guys and massive congratulations on your fabulous fundraising efforts.
