At least three years before I was diagnosed with bowel cancer, I went to the doctor with a bloated stomach and increased bowel motions however the doctor didn't really look into it.
A year or so later I went to emergency with excruciating pain, blood and mucus. I was given morphine and sent home. I continued to experience pain, blood and mucus and passing bowel motions up to 10 times a day.
At 21 years old, I first noticed blood in my stools and sought advice from two different GP’s. They both assured me it was from internal haemorrhoids. At 25 years old, with a one-year-old baby boy, I had significant bleeding and other symptoms I could no longer ignore and demanded that my GP refer me to a gastroenterologist.
