I’m not sure why this has taken me so long to write. It’s almost like I wasn’t ready to actually face everything that I’ve been through over the past 2 years. 36 years old. October 2016 – my diagnosis……rectal cancer. Stage 3. It’s penetrated the bowel wall into the lymph nodes but not sure if it’s gone to other organs in the body?

Almost exactly 3 months to the day before my 50th birthday, I’ve been diagnosed with bowel cancer.

When my father told me 15-20 years ago that he’d had a colonoscopy and had a few polyps removed, I didn’t give it a second thought. I thought, ‘standard stuff’ for a man his age. If I knew then what I know now, I would have gone and asked for colonoscopy at a much younger age.

September 2017, at the age of 46 is the moment in time where my kick ass story began. It is from this point I had to find courage, strength and determination like I had never experienced before to fight and beat Stage 3 Bowel Cancer.

On Thursday the 11th of October 2018 I was diagnosed with bowel cancer. I am 27 years old, I coincidentally turn 28 the day I am expected to complete my 12 rounds of chemotherapy. May 24th, 2019.

Just 5 months ago, my life changed forever, when I was told that I have colon cancer. At the time, I was 39 and living my best life, having recently relocated to Brisbane with my husband and young son; I was on extended long service leave from my job while we settled into our new life.
