Know Pathology Know Healthcare is an educational initiative helping Australians better understand what pathology is and the value that pathology tests provide to healthcare. The initiative is run on behalf of Pathology Awareness Australia, a group that represents interests across the entire field of pathology in Australia.
Pathology testing plays a central role in bowel cancer screening and early detection. Pathology professionals conduct blood and stool tests that guide diagnosis and review and interpret biopsy samples for treating doctors. Pathology testing is also used after diagnosis to help doctors determine the best course of treatment. For example, genetic tests can show mutations in particular genes which affect how a person’s body will respond to certain drugs.
